Civitavecchia is the Gateway to Rome
Situated on the western coast of Italy, Civitavecchia is where cruisers sail into for day trips to Rome. If you don’t have time to visit one of the most important cities in the history of civilization, there’s still plenty to do in this port. The Aquafelix water park has a wave pool and a lazy river, and while not open to the public, the Michelangelo Fortress is an impressive sight to behold as you sail into port.
If you do happen to have time while in Civitavecchia, make your way to Rome for some incredible sightseeing. You’ll see history come alive in such attractions as the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's, and Vatican Museum.
Extended tours also leave from Civitavecchia to visit Sorrento, the incredible Amalfi Coast, and the jaw-dropping sights of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.
