Nuremberg in Northern Germany has more to offer than WWII history, although that’s certainly part of the draw. This city was once the site of Nazi rallies before the war, and was almost destroyed by Allied forces. Of course, Nuremberg is also the site of the post-war trials. Visit Nuremberg Castle, also known as Kaiserburg Castle, for a dose of history along with great views from atop the tower. Head to Old Town in Altstadt for more incredible medieval architecture, like the Gothic Frauenkirche, a church constructed in the 14th Century. While there, marvel at the gilded fountain Schöner Brunnen, and indulge in shopping, people watching, and Nuremberg’s famous gingerbread at Hauptmarkt.
