History Lives in Bergen

On the southwestern coast of Norway, breathtaking fjords and majestic mountains surround the port of Bergen. Colorful buildings line Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, a previous trading center that looks as if it were built for a film set. While you’re in town, visit the Edvard Grieg House to see how the classical composer once lived. In fact, you can visit the homes of two composers in one day by taking a ferry to Lysøen, where Ole Bull lived.

If you love nature, take Bergen’s Fløibanen Funicular to Fløyen Mountain for awesome hiking trails and incredible views. Hike the trails of Stoltzekleiven for more exercise and fantastic views of the fjords and town.

Like cool history? Visit The Rosenkrantz Tower — aka Keep by the Sea — in Bergen, and learn about its beginnings in the 13th Century, and the role this fortress had in WWII. You can even visit St. George’s Hospital, the city’s oldest leprosy hospital, which is now a museum.
