Viking Longship Idun
Cruise the Rivers of Europe in a Viking Longship on the Idun
In 2012, the original sextuplet – Viking Longships – named after Norse gods, hit the water. These German-built vessels brought a modern, Scandinavian style to river hospitality, replacing the traditional, fusty river vessels. Step aboard and you’ll be hit with sunlight streaming in through the two-story atrium. The terrazzo floor, backlit marble and wooden-glass staircase provide a natural ambience. And you’ll find features new to river cruising, including the Aquavit Terrace, two large suites with living and bedroom, seven smaller suites and cabins with full and French balconies. The bow was blunted to provide more space, creating the Aquavit Terrace – an open-air cafe with indoor/outdoor seating. Plus, hybrid diesel-electric engines burn less fuel, producing fewer emissions and making the longships quieter. Even the sun deck has solar panels to help fuel the engines. The ship sails past the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage site of castles and medieval towns. Aboard Viking Idun, you’ll experience a modern, Scandinavian style to river hospitality.
