Viking Beyla
Experience the Splendor of the Beyla River with a Viking Cruise
When Viking River Cruises wanted to expand its offerings on the Elbe River, they encountered an obstacle: the river was too shallow for traditional riverboats. The design team responded by creating a purpose-built ship, the "baby Longship," which is half the size of the 190-passenger Viking Longships. The Viking Beyla is a baby Longship with 98 passengers and the same chic, Nordic-inspired decor. Many of the signature features are still present, such as the Aquavit Terrace and sun deck, but with a few differences. The Beyla has two indoor decks instead of three and the lobby and atrium are smaller, as well as no aft Explorer category of suites. Viking also implemented innovative technologies such as pump jets for propulsion and lighter materials for a lighter draft, which uses 20-30 percent less fuel. When we sailed Viking Beyla, we found the smaller size created an even more intimate atmosphere, and the crew and fellow passengers were friendly and well-traveled, making the trip a delight.
