Viking Cruises was born in Russia and is the only western-owned river cruise fleet in the country. Their vessel, Viking Akun, sails the Volga, Svir and Neva Rivers from Moscow to St Petersburg and back on the Waterways of the Tsars itinerary. Refurbished in 2014, the 204-guest ship is modern and homely, featuring Scandi-chic interiors, generous verandas and panoramic windows. There are two restaurants and a tea and coffee station, and the friendly service will make you feel right at home. Passengers can enjoy a selection of interesting talks, as well as read from the curated library. Unfortunately, there is no spa, gym, hot tub or massage onboard, but there are plenty of excursions to explore.
