The Memorable Journey Aboard Uniworld's River Queen Cruise

Uniworld Grand River Cruises' River Queen, launched in 1999, set the standard for the company's new-builds over the next four years. Bigger than River Empress and River Princess (both debuting in 2001) and River Duchess (2003), River Queen was the first to have an elevator, a launderette and three passenger decks plus a sun deck. Staterooms don't have windows that open, with the exception of those in the ship's French balcony accommodations. All cabins come with flat-screen TVs, DVD players, international direct telephone service (outbound only), air conditioning, hotel-style beds, two armchairs and a coffee table. Standard staterooms measure 151 square ft. and suites an additional 65 square ft., with additional amenities such as slippers, sparkling wine and fresh fruit. Onboard, guests can relax in the lounge or on the sun deck, read in the library, or work out in the gymnasium or sauna. There's also a computer station for outgoing emails (2.50 euros each). Food is open-seating and regional, with wine available for purchase. Dress is resort casual except for Captain's Gala and other "formal" events, which require men to wear jackets and ties, and women cocktail attire. Refurbished in 2005, River Queen still retains its classic "riverboat" look. All indoor spaces are smoke free, with smoking only allowed on the sun deck. Lastly, fares are inclusive of gratuities for onboard and onshore services, including pre- and post-cruise extensions.

The Restaurant stands as the culinary heart of the River Queen, offering guests a symphony of flavors with dishes inspired by the regions the ship sails through. The cuisine is a delightful exploration of European flavors, with each dish crafted using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Signature dishes include the succulent Rhine River Salmon, and for dessert, the Black Forest Gateau is a must-try.
